Our Ireland Screenwriting Retreat countdown continues with more highlights for those of you who are coming along with us. Yesterday, I talked about our trip to Sligo and Yeats activities. But what happens before we arrive in Sligo?
We’ll travel north in our private coach from Renvyle House Hotel, along the Connemara Loop, and enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery in Ireland. Our first stop will be Leenane at Killary Fjord, the only fjord in Ireland. We’ll have a chance to take photos of this dramatic landscape where mountains meet ocean. Many movies have been shot in this area, including “The Field” with Richard Harris.
After our photo stop, we’ll continue north to the charming town of Westport in County Mayo. Westport, designated one of Bord Failte’s Heritage Towns, is situated in the shadow of Croagh Patrick, overlooking Clew Bay. It’s one of the few planned towns in Ireland and has become an established tourism center, with many outstanding features, most notably the beautiful tree lined boulevard known as The Mall, running parallel to the Carrowbeg River. On our way back from Sligo, we’ll stop in Westport again for a traditional Irish dinner in a lively pub, before returning to Renvyle House.
